Velipaadukal - Biography of a sacred cow!

Dr Shahul Ameen comes up with a short film which is altogether different from conventions and which can be easily remarked as innovative. The film takes a satirical approach most times but never really drags away from truths. Where the film suceeds most is in waking one's conscience and invoking an argument with your self, over matters of loosing virtues and idle beliefs. Best thing abt the film was that the makers were prudent enough to concentrate on the storyline and rather not go for a fancy approach considering the futuristic nature of the subject, which cud have easily taken away the attention from the content. All said a few concerns did occur. On more than one occasion i felt the film gave an experience of sitting in a debate hall with vague remarks floating around. In any society rational and different thoughts maybe ignited at some specific points through individuals, but more often they explode only in time and groups. If u r to believe this, maybe the climax may look a bit odd and hasty. Although, if Lintu is considered as just a representative of a larger group then there should not be any such issues. Woman has always been the victim of ignorance. In a futuristic society where an advanced or more logical thinking is bound to prevail there is no reason to believe that woman wont be having a better status. But since the film is trying to project the increasing materialistic nature of the society this can be reasoned. In an environment of competition and dominance someone has to pay, something is to be lost. One other remarkable thing is the delibrate attempt in the odd naming of characters and the holy book, thus to prevent the viewers in developing wrong ideas and finding connections. Special mention is due for the actors who gave some solid performances especially the one who did the protagonist Lintu. Also two other artists to look out are the ones who did Lintu's rightist friend and the aunt at the Non-Oral Molecular transfer centre both of whom impresses with subtlety in actions. All in all a fantastic effort and three cheers to everyone behind the work!. Job well done! For more details abt this short film visit http://reactionshots.in/
